Free email provider checker
Is this a free mailbox like Gmail, or a company's own domain? No signup.
What the answer means
- Free provider
- The domain is on our short list of major free mailbox providers, such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and iCloud.
- Not on the list
- It isn't one of those. It could be a company's own domain, or a smaller free provider we don't list. The list is short on purpose, so this isn't proof of a business address.
Free isn't fake
A free mailbox is a normal address that belongs to a real person, and most consumer signups use one. Don't block these at signup unless you only sell to companies.
This is most useful for sorting. A B2B product might send a work address to sales and a Gmail address to self-serve onboarding. Blocking is a different question, and that's what the disposable check is for.
The API returns the same answer as the free_provider field on every check.
What happens to what you type
Paste an address and, with JavaScript on, only the part after the @ leaves your browser. Without JavaScript the form sends what you typed to our server, which reduces it to the domain and opens that domain’s page. We don’t save what you check here, with one exception: the domain age tool keeps the registry’s answer for a domain in memory for up to 24 hours, so repeat checks don’t go back to the registry. It’s free, and limited to 30 checks a minute per visitor.
Need this on every signup? The API checks format, mail servers, disposable domains, role addresses and relays in one call, and the first 100 checks a month are free.
